NVLSP attorneys led a standing-room-only training for students and local lawyers last fall on how to handle veterans’ disability claims. They
also offered two cases to their trainees, who split into two teams—one for each claimant. NVLSP achieves its mission through education, advocacy,
litigation, training advocates who represent veterans, and publications.

Court of Veterans Appeals was established in 1988, it quickly realized that the vast majority of veterans coming before the court had no legal
representation. The Court provided a portion of its annual Congressional appropriation to LSC to seek proposals to create a pro bono program.

are available to university faculty and graduate students. Experience in legal services, especially government benefits, is preferred but will
consider exceptional new graduates. Prior experience serving low-income organizations and client groups with a sensitivity to those in

Student Legal Services provides accessible professional legal assistance to fee-paying students. Sponsored by your student government and
partially funded by mandatory student fees, Legal Services has two full-time attorneys who work exclusively for students at the University of

Student Legal Services is staffed with second and third-year law students who work under the close supervision of four staff attorneys. If
your case requires a court appearance, you will be represented by one of our attorneys and a certified intern. Students can receive advice or
representation in court for landlord-tenant problems, criminal misdemeanors, drunk driving and other traffic offenses, debtor- creditor problems,
ond other civil concerns. This department also offers Seminars in which the lawyers come to dorms, fraternity/sorority houses or Co-ops and
answer questions on a number of different issues!

Issues include document preparation, limited court appearances and withdrawal procedures and proper communications between lawyers and pro se
litigants. The paper is designed to assist policy-makers assess the issues and includes a checklist of factors to consider. Issues raised
included the regulatory responsibility for new providers and the jurisdiction of the complaints bodies. Such issues in themselves should not act
as an inhibitor to change, but the Regulator will need to ensure that the regulatory framework provides the appropriate levels of consumer
protection and avoids uncertainty of regulation.
