Exercise itself helps prevent injuries because tissues become more resilient and tolerant of the forces they experience during vigorous
activities. Initially, exercise should be low in intensity to strengthen weak muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Exercises are included in
rehabilitation programmes to ensure the injury site returns to a fully functional state and/or to ensure that the original cause of the injury is
eliminated. Exercise stimulates tissue change and adaptation, whereas rest and recovery allow such change and adaptation to occur. Recovery from
exercise is as important as the exercise stimulus.
Physical therapists work as consultants in industrial settings to improve the design of the workplace and reduce the risk of workers overusing
certain muscles or developing low back pain. They also provide services to athletes at all levels to screen for potential problems and institute
preventive exercise programs. Physical therapy along with anti-inflammatory medication (short term basis) is very helpful. A good foot specialist
is adept at taping the big toe to limit the motion of the joint. Physical therapy and rehabilitation may also be indicated.
Physicians may also order x-rays to detect a more serious fracture. Physical therapy plus rest is the best recovery technique, and symptoms
usually go away on their own.
Pain is one of the most common complaints in sports injuries followed by reduced function. The whole approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine
and acupuncture to the treatment of pain and reduced function is to see it as a disorder in the body?s natural state. Pain from an injury may be
sudden
and severe. Bruising and swelling may develop soon after the injury. Pain reduction as a
result of the application of ice or other tissue temperature reducing agents often allows the initiation and return of early joint range of
motion. Early, normal joint motion patterns promotes the realignment and repair of damaged tissues at the cellular level.
Pain with range of motion. Pain is usually at its worst in the morning and improves with walking. Vigorous exercise will increase the pain for
a bit, then improve it.
Muscles and tendons help the knee joint move. When any of these structures is hurt or diseased, you have knee problems. Muscle tone can be
maintained with the use of electrical stimulation or simple strengthening exercises. Muscle aches are completely normal in exercising, however be
aware if you are finding your joints or bones are aching.
Muscles strains can be minor or severe depending on the amount of damage or stress placed on the muscle or tendon. It is important to have
these injuries treated as soon as possible to prevent chronic problems which can impair function and loss of play time.
Problems can be diagnosed earlier and treated without serious health risks or more invasive procedures. Furthermore, because injuries are
often addressed at an earlier stage, operations are more likely to be successful. Problems can occur in your back, hip or knee and be directly
related to your feet.
Injury is not the only problem sport chiropractors help the serious amateur or professional sportsman or woman. Many people find that they
reach the threshold of their ability and cannot improve no matter how hard or how much time the train. Injury severity was classified as mild,
moderate, or severe, with mild injuries causing a player to miss one game, moderate injuries producing two to three missed games, and severe
injuries causing a player to miss more than three games. Injuries were classified according to the site of injury, the position of the injured
player, the mechanism of injury, type of injury, time and place of injury, whether the injury was acute or chronic, and of course the severity of
damage. Injuries happen, pure and simple. While they can be minimized, they cannot be totally avoided.
Injuries will still occur and most will result from judgment errors by the runner, improper sliding technique, or poor timing. Break-away
bases, however, may modify the out come of these poor judgments and poor timing errors. Injury can be broken down into two basic types, one from
trauma such as a slip, fall or collision and the other being of the over-use or repetitive stress variety. Injuries range from abrasions of the
cornea and bruised eyelids to internal eye damage, such as retinal detachments and internal bleeding. Many of these injuries lead to vision loss
and permanent blindness.
Doctors and dentists need to recommend a more intensive education of students in sports medicine and sports dentistry, and to increase their
willingness to become a team dentist. Doctors prescribe muscle relaxants and some patients find that they help. However, a very large percentage
of older men go from doctor to doctor and are unable to find a drug that will control their night-time urination.
