Science projects are not just for science fairs; instead they are the foundation for a successful future. Often science projects are
starting points for large and successful business that students create when they grow up. Science projects are good ways to learn more
about science by searching for answers to specific problems. Usually instructional materials are given to guide and provide ideas, but students
must do their part in the search by planning experiments, finding and recording information related to the problem, and organizing the collected
data to find an answer. Science projects are designed for groups of students in a lab setting. They are investigative in nature.
Science projects are part of each school's curriculum. Some kids enjoy them greatly while others prefer other means of education.
Science projects are all about understanding how to form and test a hypothesis. Building a model is great, but doesn't meet the standards for a
science fair project.
Experiments should be done in the presence of a parent or teacher. Experimental science is actually the search for cause and effect
relationships in nature. A hypothesis is your best guess at what this cause and effect relationship is. Experiments must usually be
repeated with different values of your independent variable while you measure and record the dependent variable. For example you may grow tomato
plants with different amounts of light and measure and record the plant growth.
Students matriculating from the summer programs progress into community-based programs which consist of academic enrichment projects further
developing their cognitive skills emphasizing observation, hypothesis formation, experimentation, analysis and communication. These projects
promote self-paced individualized learning. Students have the opportunity to achieve national recognition and win over $100,000 in scholarship
money. The Siemens Westinghouse Science and Technology Award involves high school students working individually or in teams of two or three on
independent science research projects. Students must ensure that their experiment is a FAIR TEST. This means that they must make sure they are
changing only one variable in their experiment.
Students participating in the Pediatric Oncology Education program will receive training in a superb academic environment created by
the interaction of committed basic scientists, research-oriented physicians, and postdoctoral fellows. Depending on their special
interests, trainees will spend their rotations in a clinical research or a laboratory research setting. Students work in the C and JAVA
programming environments and learn how to interface Palm devices with Unix and Windows platforms. Students may enter their projects in fairs held
by their own schools or by small groups of local schools. Those whose projects perform strongly are invited to enter district fairs; the winners
there move on to statewide fairs.
Kids learn about how volcanoes work and how heat and pressure can be an explosive combination. Kids science is a science studied by
the children. Science is always considered to be a very serious subject concerning scientific discoveries and innovations.
Scientists regularly anticipate risks with staffing, methodology, instrumentation, results, and many other variables. Our
field of informal learning doesn’t yet look at risks in this way. Scientists are very organized and very careful people. When they work on an
experiment or a project, they write down what they used, what they did and what happened.
Examples of the kind of science include social simulations, particle physics, earth sciences and bio-informatics . Particle physics
has a particularly well developed e-Science infrastructure due to their need for adequate computing facilities for the analysis of results and
storage of data originating from the CERN Large Hadron Collider , which is due to start taking data in 2008 . Examples of prize-winning projects
