Parking is extremely limited; plan to arrive by the free Village Route shuttle bus to the Yavapai Observation Station stop. Parking is always
a hassle, and most guests park their cars once and use the free park shuttle to get around. Pets are not permitted. Parking your car and riding
the shuttle is the easiest way to explore the South Rim area. Check the park newspaper, The Guide, for shuttle bus routes, stops, and times.
temperatures
Guests may choose from a variety of rooms or opt to stay in historic cabins (some with fireplaces) nestled on the canyon rim. The Bright Angel
features two restaurants, gift shop and a lounge with live entertainment. Guests who are flexible can get a room six to eight months in advance,
but multinight stays and specific days are tougher, Brossman said. Guests who stay two nights also receive a dessert with each dinner entree at
the El Tovar Dining Room or Arizona Steakhouse. The discounts range from 10 percent on purchases of $50-99.99 to 20 percent on purchases of $100
or more.
suite
Suites come equipped with microwaves and refrigerators. Handicap accessible, non-smoking and connecting rooms are available. Suites, with
private terraces and stunning views, are extremely spacious. Just off the lobby is a cocktail lounge with a view. Suites have a bedroom with
either two queens or one king bed, and a sitting room, and some of the suites have a porch or balcony.
reservations
Mules have been carrying people into the canyon since the Bright Angel Trail opened in 1891. Today’s wranglers guarantee the mules are
extremely surefooted. Mule riders must be in good physical condition and at least 4 feet 7 inches in height. They must also weigh less than 200
pounds. Mule rides book 13 months in advance. There is a waiting list for cancellations.

hiking,hike
Hikers can lose one to two liters of water per hour. Take plenty of nutritious food in order to keep up your energy levels. Hike it in its
entirety and you'll cross eight mountain ranges, four national forests, 225 miles (362 kilometers) of the Sonoran Desert, and 21 miles (34
kilometers) rim-to-rim of the Grand Canyon. But you can hit an equally impressive array of ecosystems—from cactus-strewn desert to densely
forested peaks—along the four-day, 49-mile (79-kilometer) stretch that begins four miles (six kilometers) west of Superior, Arizona, on Highway
60.

Dinner in the dining room was fair but the atmosphere was great. Then, we saw 2 elk that evening grazing on the front lawn of the lodge which
was a grand finish to a glorious day. Dinner tonight was nearly perfect except for the notable absence of background music. I thought it would be
a little over the top to pull out my ipod, instead I imaged setting the clock back 1/2 century to the post WWII period complete with soldiers
fresh back from war time duty, young and smiling, with the walls of the place bouncing in vibrations to the rhythmic beats and trombone accents
of big band sounds of that era.

Temperatures can vary greatly from the rim to the Canyon floor. Dress in layers so that you can add or remove clothing as necessary.
Temperatures inside the canyon are often 20-30 degrees hotter that at the rim, and there is little shade. Avoid the noontime hours (hike in the
early morning or evening) and take plenty of food and water with you - plan about 1 liter of water for every hour of hiking.
