Microsoft has brought out their answer to the iPod; the Zune(which interestingly enough, isn't mac-compatible). In the realm of aesthetics the Zune is a huge step above the iPod. Microsoft appealed, but was forced to comply while the appeal wound its way through the system.

Music and entertainment, your way. The Zune easily connects you with your music, videos, and pictures wherever and whenever you want, and unlike the iPod, it even has a built-in FM tuner so you can keep up with local news and sports. Music, Video, Photos and Websites in 8GB and 16GB models: Touch your music in Cover Flow and watch video on a stunning, widescreen display. Browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos on the first-ever Wi-Fi iPod. MusicGremlin released its MG-1000, which offers 8GB of memory and an FM receiver. Capable of playing MP3 and PlaysForSure WMA files, the MG-1000 is matched with MusicGremlin's new download service that sports 2 million tracks.

Audio is available in stereo format only (no support for surround) via RCA jacks or optical audio. Other connectivity options include USB2.0, 10/100Base-T Ethernet, and as already indicated, an 802.11n wireless interface that is backward compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g. Audio trac ks are selected via a single rotary push-button on the front panel. Optionally the DMP-100 can be connected to a maximum of seven external discrete trigger inputs, each of which can be configured in software to select a particular audio track.

Product reviews are written and submitted by online shoppers to assist you as you shop. Products built on the company?s Telairity-1 real-time HD video architecture deliver the industry?s highest level of video processing available and address emerging standards for video compression including H.264. Telairity supplies highly integrated, complete hardware and software solutions that enable OEMs to get to market quickly with cost-effective, highly reliable and high-quality encoding systems.

Videos are similarly impressive -- clear and bright with no noticeable pixellation (though we did notice the occasional blurring around some sharp edges) -- and the viewing angle from side to side is excellent. Even the interface looks stellar, right down to the transparent icons on the main menu. Video-playback-capable players are also called "MP4 players". A variety of different video formats such as AVI, MPEG-1/2, MPEG-4 (H.264, XviD and DivX) and QuickTime (.mov) can be supported depending on the player.

Listen to your favorite radio station with the built-in FM tuner or wirelessly share tracks with your friends to discover new music on the go. Browse the Zune Marketplace to choose from millions of songs, albums, DRM-free MP3s (without digital rights management), music videos, podcasts and more. Listen to your podcasts on your computer with iTunes, or sync them with your iPod and listen on the go. Listen to the full track of any song you receive up to three times and even pass along songs you receive to other friends who have a Zune. If you like a song you receive, you can easily add it to your wish list and then buy it from your PC the next time you sync.

Wireless sync only works when the player is charging. Since I only have the included USB cable which connects to my computer, it doesn’t make sense for me to use wireless sync. Wireless networking have not gotten there yet with the player but should be a nice feature. One other major disappointment is there is no support for XP64.
